Interview with Pamela Stanford, Cult Actress [Eng+Fr] (entretien avec Monique Delaunay)

Introduction

The French actress Pamela Stanford (born as Monique Delaunay) is famous for her roles in fifteen films by Jess Franco, notably Lorna the Exorcist (1974), Sexy Sisters (1977), Blue Rita (1977), and Célestine, Maid at Your Service (1974). You can also see her in many cult films of other directors, such as Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS (1975) by Patrice Rhomm.

Thanks to Pamela’s acting talent and peculiar beauty, even her smallest episodic roles leave a vivid impression. The tiny moment in Les gloutonnes (1973), when she is looking into the camera and winking, is one of my favorite ones in the film. And her short comical appearance in Prostitution Clandestine (1975) is basically the only thing that makes the film worth watching.

What’s more, after a pause having lasted since the 80-s, Pamela returned to the cinema in 2014. She’s been working with the director Alexandre Mathis starring in his multiple experimental short and feature-length films.

When doing my research, I found too little information about Pamela Stanford. So I decided to correct this unfair situation and interview her myself.

At first, Pamela was hesitant about agreeing for an interview, so I had to make a little effort to have her share with her existing and future fans some of the facts about her cinematographic career and personality.

During our conversation, that lasted about five hours in total, I discovered a cultured individual with rich imagination, brilliant sense of humour, and artistic potential stretching far beyond her acting talent.

The Interview

Hello, Madame. Would you like to give me an interview for my blog? I discovered that there is not much information about you online. I only found two interviews and an article on Wikipedia. So I came up with a few questions for which I couldn’t find answers and that would, hopefully, be interesting for your fans and yourself.

Hello, Gene. I appreciate your proposal, but as my cinematographic “career” was insignificant, I don’t have much to say about it.

It’s not true. I see that you have a lot of fans, and I am sure that they would be very happy to learn more about you. And me too. Also, many of my questions aren’t about your cinematographic career.

What could I say about myself? Nothing interesting! If I only continued to play! I regret it a lot, because I adore cinema.

I recently played the role of an old woman (an hour of makeup to make me look older). I found this very funny: the film isn’t finished.

Yes, I was thinking “Is this makeup? Pamela doesn’t resemble herself very much”.

Not sexy, but funny. I am VERY old, (of the age of that old lady), but some say that I haven’t changed since ‘Lorna’, LOL! I believe they exaggerate.

They exaggerate, but not much.

Many men harass me on Facebook, so now, for having some peace, I will be saying that on the photo of that old lady is my actual appearance. Hahahhahaha!

The film ‘Outre Tombe’ was shot between 2015 / 2016 / 2019. It’s there you can see what I look like. In fact, I’ve never had makeup on ‘Outre Tombe’. Because I was supposed to be lost in time, without any instrument of modernity, I was in raw condition.

I myself was surprised when I saw your contemporary photos for the first time. In fact, I have a question about it among the interview questions.

Which one?

This question is the last on the list. And you haven’t yet responded even the first one. If you want to know, we can start.

Wikipedia says that you are also an artist. Is this true? Tell me more in detail about this side of your artistic activity.

Yes, I paint and I adore drawing. But it’s not my profession. It’s only for enjoyment.

What kind of pictures do you draw?

My drawing reflects only one side of my personality. I am extremely attracted by science fiction, science in general, and everything connected to paranormal. When my painting, another part of my soul, is, maybe, very romantic: flowers, landscapes and much blur à la Turner.

I also draw UFOs, my big passion.

I draw little. I gave a lot away.

Do you have favorite artists?

The one I’m thinking of first: Monet, Cézanne, Gauguin, a bit Van Gogh... Then Turner, Cotman, Blake, and so many others that I find quite romantic, of the “foggy” art.

Interestingly, my immoderate love for modernity flirts with certain romanticism, old-fashioned, maybe.

When did you start drawing and how did you start?

Being raised in the countryside, near a forest, I would observe the trees like we are looking at a canvas.

Close to the age of 8-9, I was browsing a magazine where there was an erupting volcano. I stopped and was looking at the colors, saying to myself that this miracle deserved to be a picture. I told myself: “I am going to become an artist to immortalize the beauty of nature”.

This is a cute story! You see, you have a lot to say about yourself, and I find it very interesting.

Oh, I don’t know… ! Thank you, but paradoxically in relation to the profession of an actress, I don’t like to expose myself. It is, however, a quality of a public profession. But I am like this, very paradoxical LOL!

You are modest, it’s a nice quality.

Modest? Realistic! I see myself as I am. But especially VERY detached from the material world, I live in my thoughts, in my dreams, at the same time very anchored to the Earth, without superficiality. From which comes my great love for animals and nature.

It’s even better and more interesting than just modest.

Modest, that is to say, not that much either. I have a consciousness of being different in the sense of where I’m connected to subjects that most people ignore.

What subjects, for example?

What certain people call “science fiction” which maybe, and even certainly, is the future reality. Bravo to the precursors—Jules Verne, Vinci and the discoverers of Quantum Physics… Is classical Physics obsolete? This makes one reflect.

I know that you are very interested in paranormal phenomenons. Have you ever had a real supernatural experience in your own life?

Oooooh yes!!!! Since forever.

Could you tell me about it?

Incredible experiences!!!! I’m going to tell you about a few only, because I keep the others for the book I’m about to write.

A book? This is big news! Yes, tell me, please.

Difficult to say. It’s all the subject of the book… The only reason to make an inexisting person exist… That is to say, who existed without existing. But she is here, and she counts on the planet Earth. While not knowing a word in French, she suddenly starts talking, reading, and writing in this language without having learned it, at the age of 7 years old.

Because being rejected everywhere, like if she didn’t exist, and her whole life was like that, I want to say that yes, she exists.

Is this the subject of your book?

Among a thousand other things.

I’m not sure that I understand now. The book itself is a tool to bring in this world a supernatural being who you know?

Yes, I know this being.

Do you have anything on the subject of supernatural or you book to add for this interview?

I don’t want to unveil too much… But a meeting of what in the ufological vocabulary is called MIB, I have met a ‘man in black’, which seems to be very rare in France. Terrifying!

Not to forget, but without developing here, haunted houses in which I lived, observations of UFOs, etc… Phantom airplane crash…

‘Out-of-body experience’, maybe, as well?

Yes, and this was recently. This was the first and, I hope, the last time.

I think that I’ve already succinctly made an overview of what I could tell you.

I know that music is also your passion. If I’m not mistaken, you also were a singer in the past (and I remember the scene in ‘Ilsa’ where you are singing). Do you still play music or sing?

Yes, I loooove music. Ilsa—it was so much fun, oh my god (!) but I also used to sing in Folies Bergères where I was mostly a dancer.

Unfortunately, no singing anymore, unless I’m asked to do it in a film (I would be happy), but I listen to an enormous amount of music.

What are your preferred genres of music?

Any music, except for rap. I love blues a lot, classical, country, rock, jazz, and even accordeon.

Do you have favourite musicians or singers?

When it’s asked like that, out of the blue… Difficult. BB King , Clapton, John Mayer, the young Stones. Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles. And an infinity of others. A bit of Beatles.

Now I like them less, I think that they don’t sing anymore. Mick Jagger is or was very ill.

[In a few days I also learned that Pamela also likes Michel Sardou, Julio Iglesias, Mireille Mathieu, Céline Dion, and especially Dalida, who Pamela also respects much as a personality.]

You also adore animals. Which animals are your favorite ones?

A wolf! I have one! Tamed. Very affectionate, but also very aggressive when he doesn’t know the person.

A real wolf? I remember that you told me about him, but I thought you were joking by calling a dog a “wolf”.

A real wolf.

And he lives at your home? It’s wonderful!

Partially. I share him with my friend. He will be here next week.

I love dogs and horses. When I was a child, my father, a jokey, used to give me rides on one of his.

Also deer. All animals except for serpents.

You looked like a serpent in ‘Lorna’ : )

Hahaha!

I’m going to make a confession to you: I’m not a human! I come from the sky.

Yes, I suspected this.

You were right!

On Facebook you have a nickname Cometa. How did you come up with it and what does it mean to you?

It’s an hommage to the comet that transferred me to the planet Earth!

What qualities of your character are you most content with?

Loyalty, honesty, sincerity, fidelity…

Let’s talk about cinema a little. Which of your roles are your favorite?

Strong roles, out of norms: of the extraterrestrial kind, horror films, alcoholic, a religious woman, a witch…

I’m waiting with all my soul THE director who will let me play them.

You can easily ask Alexandre Mathis, I think.

Yes, but he mostly makes experimental films.

And what films of your filmography are your favorites, if we are talking about a whole film, not particularly about your own role?

To start with, Lorna, if the film wasn’t butchered with additions of pornographic scenes.

Besides that, I don’t know, I was doing this without almost realizing it. Jess Franco used to shoot multiple films at the same time. I didn’t even know in which one I was.

When I was offered ‘Lorna’, I believed I would continue to do “normal” cinema. I was caught in a trap of a “catalogued”, a “hardcore actress”, and fried for others. It’s difficult to explain.

The only wonderful memory that I keep of these shootings is signing the contract for ‘Lorna’. It was my first one, and I believed that it would take me farther. Alas, the result deceived me.

The role of Lorna would suit me, if it wasn’t tampered afterwards.

Are there any particular roles or a type of character that you have always wanted to play?

As I already told you higher, roles out of ordinary. A role of a fairy, a spy…

Currently I dream—but I’m, of course, allowed to hope—of playing a real role for real cinema.

“Real cinema”—what do you mean by this term?

A film that evokes a big emotion, not the ones that represent a white wall and nothing else during hours, where it’s required from the viewers to imagine the whole story...

This kind of cinema made me think of a scene that I lived through. I was in Paris, without a job, without filming, and without money, I hadn’t eaten, I was hungry. A guy was eating a sandwich next to me. He told me: “If you sleep with me, I will offer you one”. I refused. So he said: “If you are hungry, you have nothing but to imagine that you are eating!!!”

He was wrong. You didn’t die of hunger.

No, afterwards I made some money. And I ate as much as I wanted. Then the cinema was over, I made other things.

Life insurance?

I don’t understand.

I read in another interview. You said “I did odd jobs. I even insured deaths”.

Oh yes! I watched the dead!

Ah, I thought you were a life insurance agent.

No.

Are you interested in other exploitation and fantastic cinema apart from the films you played in? Do you like films of other directors like Jean Rollin, Mario Mercier, José Larraz and other maitres of low budget cinema?

I’m interested in all the cinema, especially fantastique and horror, whether low or high budget, it’s not important if the films are able to touch me.

Has it ever happened that the director improved anything in the film, according to your advice? In the storyline or particular scenes.

Not in my first films. I was young and neophyte, especially intimidated by this big unpacking—cameras, sunlights, etc… But in the latest films, like ‘Outre Tombe’ and others—’Vampyr’ and ‘Lady Usher’—I give my opinion, of course.

Are there any details in your films that you would like a lot to change if the director allowed you to do this, but it has never happened (apart from excessive porno scenes—it’s understood).

As the cinema was almost like a fantasy of a child, I allowed to guide me, floating in my cloud, like in a dream.

But lately, it’s my outfit, my makeup, the length of scenes—this is mostly what I would like to change.

Could you share any anecdotes about any amusing, strange, or simply interesting events that happened during a filming?

Interesting anecdotes that I think are funny used to happen during my first films.

You know that between shooting scenes actors wait, often for a long time. During these moments we were idle, everyone talked, and I would tell them stories about fantomes, haunted houses. They were all very interested, up to forgetting their roles, their scripts, to the great pity of the director who would “tear his hair out” before such a flippancy and lack of seriousness for the work.

They would listen to me with their mouths open—it’s incredible, this interest for the paranormal, especially among the ones who are called artists. I would tell them all that I knew about the topic. However, sometimes I would make things up, particularly say that I lived on the 6th floor, which was true, but that I had a goat as a pet. In response to their questions about how the beast could climb the stairs of waxed wood without slipping, I would say that it had skates on its hooves that had been crafted for it.

I would also say that I had a python of two meters long. They were terrified. During that time, the director, who was very angry, was bordering a heart attack.

They would refuse to come to my place—that’s how much they were afraid of the serpent… !!! They would call me “Serpent”!

You were such a villain [here I chose a wrong word in French—I wanted to say “naughty”].

Villain, I don’t know, I would say “naughty”, because all this was for the sake of having a laugh, except for the director didn’t laugh. Hahhhaha!

I wanted to say like a child who likes to fool around for fun, against the rules.

Yes, I was like a child. I’ve always been one LOL!

Are there any things that you would love to change in your career or in your life if you could go back to the past and do something differently?

As for changing things, I would prefer to have a different “career” in general, but the Destiny, or I don’t know what else, has decided otherwise. I also think that taking in consideration my past life, my education, my childhood, and all kinds of parameters, the result could not be other than this life. So I don’t regret anything, because, maybe I couldn’t do anything and maybe it all was written, I don’t know.

No regrets !

Are there any questions that no one has ever asked you for an interview, but that you have always wanted to answer?

Out of the blue like that, I don’t know… I think about paranormal, but it has nothing to do with cinema.

It’s not important if this has nothing to do with cinema. So if you have something to say about paranormal, I’m interested anyway.

Since my more tender childhood, I have been attracted by strange things. Around the age of four approximately, my parents were going to move, and I was resisting as much as I could by screaming, refusing to enter this new house, reasoning that “there are malicious spirits”.

Obviously, the settlement happened despite my refusal, but pretty soon we noticed that the house was haunted. It was unlivable: objects would move, the lights would turn on on their own. At night cries, wailing, murmurs would wake us up, we would even get hits… We learned a little later that in this place there had been crimes, people had also commited suicide…

And you moved?

Yes, and very fast LOL!

And now—the question with which I intrigued you strongly enough to allow me bother you with so many questions and during so much time. What is the secret of your unfading beauty? Share with housewives who read my blog the recipes or spells that you use.

Introduction

L'actrice Française Pamela Stanford (née Monique Delaunay) est reconnue pour ses rôles dans quinze films de Jess Franco, notamment Les possédées du diable (1974), Les Deux Sœurs vicieuses (1977), Blue Rita (1977), et Célestine, bonne à tout faire (1974). On peut aussi la voir dans des nombreux films cultes des autres réalisateurs, comme Elsa Fräulein SS (1975) de Patrice Rhomm.

Grâce au talent d'actrice et sa beauté particulière, même les plus petits de rôles de Pamela laissent une impression éclatante.

Un moment minuscule où elle regarde la caméra et fait un clin d'œil aux spectateurs dans Maciste et les gloutonnes (1973) est un de mes favoris dans le film. Et sa partie courte et comique dans Prostitution Clandestine (1975) est en fait le seule détail pour qu'il vaut regarder le film.

En plus, après la pause durante depuis les années 80's, Pamela est revenue dans le cinéma en 2014. Elle travaille avec le réalisateur Alexandre Mathis en jouant des rôles principaux dans ses nombreux films expérimentaux de court et long métrage.

En faisant ma recherche, j'ai trouvé trop peu de renseignement sur Pamela Stanford. Donc j'ai décidé de corriger cette situation injuste et d'elle prendre une interview moi-même.

Au début, Pamela hésitait de consentir pour l'interview, donc j'ai dû faire une petite effort pour la faire partager avec ses admirateurs présents et futurs quelques faits sur sa carrière cinématographique et sa personnalité.

Pendant notre conversation, qui a duré environ cinq heures au total, j'ai découvert un individu cultivé avec un imagination riche, humour brillant et un potentiel artistique qui étend loin dehors son talent d'actrice.

L'interview

Bonjour, Madame. Voulez-vous me donner une interview pour mon blog ? J'ai découvert qu'il n'y avait pas beaucoup d'information sur vous en ligne. J'ai seulement trouvé deux interviews et une article sur Wikipédia. Donc j'ai inventé quelques questions auxquels je n'ai pas pu trouver les réponses et qui, j'espère, seront intéressantes pour vos admirateurs et vous-même.

Bonjour, Gene. J'apprécie votre proposition, mais ma "carrière" cinématographique étant insignifiante, je n'ai pas grand chose à en dire.

Ce n'est pas vrai. Je vois que vous avez beaucoup d'admirateurs, et je suis sûr que ils seraient très heureux d'apprendre plus sur vous. Et moi aussi. En plus, beaucoup de mes questions ne sont pas sur votre carrière cinématographique.

Que pourrais-je dire, parler de moi ? Rien d'intéressant ! Si seulement j'avais tourné davantage ! Je le regrette infiniment car j'adore le cinéma.

J'ai récemment joué le rôle d'une vieille femme (maquillage d'une heure pour me vieillir), j'ai trouvé ça très drôle : le film n'est pas terminé.

‘Le Vampyr’ ?

Oui.

Oui, j'ai pensé "est-ce un maquillage ? Pamela ne se ressemble pas trop à elle-même".

Pas sexy mais rigolo. Je suis TRÈS vieille (l'âge de cette vieille) mais certains disent que je n'ai pas changé depuis ‘Lorna’, LOL ! Je crois qu'ils exagèrent.

Exagèrent, mais pas beaucoup.

Beaucoup d'hommes me draguent sur Facebook, alors maintenant, pour avoir la paix, je vais dire que, sur la photo de la vieille, c'est mon apparence actuelle. Hahahhahaha!

Le film ‘Outre Tombe’ a été tourné entre 2015 / 2016 / 2019. Là est ce à quoi je ressemble. En réalité, je n'étais jamais maquillée sur ‘Outre Tombe’, puisque j'étais censée être égarée dans le temps, sans aucun outil de la modernité, je me trouvais à l'état brut.

Wikipédia dit que vous êtes aussi peintre. C'est vrai ? Dites plus en détail de ce côté de votre activité artistique.

Oui, je peins et j'adore la peinture, mais ça n'est pas mon métier. Seulement pour le plaisir.

Quel genre de peintures dessinez-vous ?

Ma peinture ne reflète qu'une facette de ma personnalité. Je suis extrêmement attirée par la science fiction, la science en général et tout ce qui a trait au paranormal. Alors que ma peinture, une autre partie de mon âme, peut-être, est très romantique: fleurs, paysages et beaucoup de flou à la Turner.

Je peins aussi des OVNI, ma grande passion.

Je peins peu. J'en ai beaucoup donné.

Avez-vous des peintres préférés ?

Celui auquel je pense en premier: Monet, Cézanne, Gauguin, un peu Van Gogh... Ensuite, Turner, Cotman, Blake et tant d'autres que je trouve assez romantiques, à la peinture "brumeuse".

Curieux que mon amour immodéré de la modernité flirte ainsi avec un certain romantisme désuet, peut-être.

Quand avez-vous commencé de dessiner et comment êtes-vous arrivée de le commencer ?

Elevée à la campagne, près d'une forêt, j'observais les arbres comme on regarde une toile.

Vers l'âge de 8-9 ans, je feuilletais une revue où se trouvait un volcan en éruption. Je suis tombée en arrêt devant les couleurs en me disant que cette merveille méritait d'être un tableau. Je me suis dit : je vais devenir peintre pour immortaliser ces beautés de la nature.

C'est une mignonne histoire! Vous voyez, vous avez beaucoup de dire sur vous, et je le trouve très intéressant.

Oh je ne sais pas... ! Merci, mais paradoxalement à l'activité d'actrice, je n'aime pas m'exhiber.

C'est pourtant le propre d'un métier public... Mais je suis comme ça, très paradoxale LOL!

Vous êtes modeste, c'est une qualité agréable.

Modeste ? Réaliste ! Je me vois telle que je suis. Mais surtout TRÈS détachée du monde matériel, je vis dans mes pensées, dans mes rêves, en même temps très ancrée sur Terre sans superficialité. D'où mon grand amour des animaux et de la nature.

C'est même mieux et plus intéressant que seulement modeste.

Modeste, enfin pas trop non plus. J'ai conscience d'être différente dans le sens où je suis branchée sur des sujets que le plus grand nombre ignore.

Quels sujets, par exemple ?

Ce que d'aucuns appellent “science fiction” qui n'est peut-être, et même sûrement, une réalité future. Bravo les précurseurs—Jules Verne, Vinci et les découvreurs de la Physique Quantique...

Physique classique obsolète ? Cela fait méditer...

Je sais que vous êtes beaucoup intéressée par des phénomènes paranormaux. Avez-vous jamais un vrai expérience surnaturel dans votre propre vie ?

Oooooh ouiii !!!! Depuis toujours.

Pourriez-vous en raconter ?

Expériences inouïes !!!! Je vais vous en raconter quelques unes seulement, car j'en garde d'autres pour un livre que je suis en train d'écrire.

Un livre ? C'est une grand nouvelle. Oui, racontez-moi, s'il vous plaît.

Difficile à dire. Et c'est tout le sujet du livre... La seule raison est de faire exister une personne qui n'existait pas… Enfin qui existait sans exister. Mais elle est là et elle compte sur la planète Terre. Ne parlant pas un mot de Français, elle s'est mise soudain à parler, lire et écrire cette langue sans l'avoir apprise à l'âge 7 ans.

Parce que rejetée de partout, comme si elle n'existait pas et toute sa vie en a été ainsi, je veux dire que oui, elle existe.

C'est le sujet de votre livre ?

Entre mille autres choses.

Je ne suis pas sûr que je comprends. La seule raison pour quoi ? Ou c'est le titre du livre ?

Le titre est autre. Je pense que si le livre est lu, on posera sur elle et peut-être pour la première fois de sa vie, un regard humain. Et il y en a à raconter… De sa vie d'adulte aussi, une vie hors norme. Incroyable… Une elfe ! Une vie dans la forêt avec des animaux sauvages entrecoupée de rêves de gloire et de solitude.

Je pense que je comprends maintenant. Le livre-même est un moyen d'apporter dans ce monde un être surnaturel que vous connaissez ?

Oui je connais cet être.

Vous avez quelque chose sur le sujet de surnaturel ou votre livre que vous voudrez ajouter pour l'interview ?

Je ne veux pas trop dévoiler ... Mais la rencontre de ce que dans le vocabulaire ufologique on appelle MIB, j'ai rencontré un “man in black”, paraît-il très rare en France. Terrifiant !

Oui et cela tout récemment, c'était la première et j'espère la dernière fois.

Je pense avoir fait succinctement le tour de ce que je pouvais vous dire.

Je sais que la musique est aussi votre passion. Si je ne me trompe pas, vous étiez chanteuse dans le passé (et je me souviens de la scène dans ‘Ilsa’ où vous chantez). Vous toujours faites de la musique ou chantez ?

Oui j'adoooore la musique. ‘Ilsa’, c'était de la rigolade, oh my god (!) mais j'ai chanté aux Folies Bergères où j'étais surtout danseuse.

Malheureusement, plus de chant, à moins qu'on me propose de le faire dans un film (j'en serais ravie), mais j'en écoute énormément.

Quels sont vos genres de la musique préférés ?

Toutes les musiques sauf le rap. J'aime beaucoup le blues, classique, country, rock, jazz et même l'accordéon.

Avez-vous des musiciens ou des chanteurs préférés ?

Là, à brûle-pourpoint... difficile. BB King , Clapton, John Mayer, les Stones jeunes. Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles. Et infiniment d'autres. Un peu les Beatles.

Les Stones jeunes—moi aussi, je les aime beaucoup.

Maintenant, je les aime moins, je pense qu'ils ne chantent plus pour le moment. Mick Jagger est ou a été très malade.

[Dans quelques jours j’ai appris que Pamela aime aussi Michel Sardou, Julio Iglesias, Mireille Mathieu, Céline Dion, et surtout Dalida, qui Pamela aussi respect beaucoup comme une personnalité.]

Vous adorez des animaux aussi. Quels animaux sont vos préférés ?

Le loup ! J'en ai un ! Apprivoisé. Très affectueux mais aussi très agressif quand il ne connaît pas.

Un vrai loup ? Je me souviens que vous m'en avez dit, mais je pensais que vous plaisantiez, en appelant une chienne "loup".

Et il habite chez-vous ? C'est merveilleux !

En partie. Je le partage avec un ami. Il sera là, la semaine prochaine.

J'aime les chiens et les chevaux. Quand j'étais enfant, mon père, jockey, me promenait sur un des siens.

De quelles qualités de votre caractère êtes-vous le plus contente ?

Loyauté, honnêteté, sincérité, fidélité...

Parlons du cinéma un peu. Quels de vos rôles sont vos préférés ?

Des rôles forts, hors normes : genre extraterrestre, films d'horreur, alcoolique, religieuse, sorcière…

J'attends de toute mon âme LE réalisateur qui me les fera jouer…

Oui, mais il fait plutôt des films expérimentaux.

Et quels films de votre filmographie sont vos préférés, si on parle de film entier, pas forcément de votre propre rôle ?

Au départ Lorna si le film n'avait pas été charcuté avec des ajouts de scènes pornographiques.

Sinon, je ne sais pas, je les faisais sans quasiment m'en rendre compte. Jess Franco tournait plusieurs films à la fois, je ne savais même pas dans lequel je me trouvais.

Quand on m'a proposé Lorna, j'ai cru que j'allais continuer à faire du cinéma "normal". J'étais prise au piège "cataloguée" de "hardeuse" et grillée pour les autres. Enfin, difficile à expliquer.

Le seul merveilleux souvenir que je garde de ces tournages-là, c'est en signant le contrat pour "Lorna". C'était mon premier et je pensais qu'il me mènerait plus loin. Hélas, la suite m'a déçue.

Le rôle de Lorna me convenait s'il n'avait été trafiqué par la suite.

Y-a-t il des rôles particuliers ou un type de personnage que vous avez toujours voulu jouer ?

Comme je vous l'ai dit plus haut, des rôles hors du commun. Rôle de fée, d'espionne…

Actuellement, je rêve—mais il est bien permis d'espérer—de jouer un vrai rôle pour le vrai cinéma.

"Vrai cinéma"—que comprenez-vous par ce terme ?

Un film qui suscite une grand émotion, pas de ceux qui représentent un mur blanc et rien d'autre pendant des heures, où il est demandé aux spectateurs d'imaginer l'histoire...

Ce cinéma-là me fait penser à une scène que j'ai vécue. Je me trouvais à Paris, sans travail sans tournage et sans argent, je n'avais pas mangé, j'avais faim. Un type mangeait un sandwich à côté de moi. Il m'a dit : “si tu couches avec moi, je t'en offre un". J'ai refusé. Alors, il a dit : “si tu as faim tu n'as qu'à imaginer que tu manges !!!”

Il avait tort. Vous n'êtes pas mort de faim.

Non, après, j'ai gagné un peu d'argent. Et j'ai mangé à ma faim. Puis fini le cinéma, j'ai fait autre chose.

Assurance-vie ?

Je ne comprends pas.

J'ai lu dans un autre interview. Vous avez dit "I did odd jobs. I even insured deaths".

Oh oui ! J'ai veillé des morts !

Ah, j'ai pensé que vous étiez agent d'assurance.

Non.

Êtes-vous intéressée par le cinéma exploitation et fantastique sauf les films où vous avez jouée ? Aimez-vous des films des autres réalisateurs comme Jean Rollin, Mario Mercier, José Larraz et les autres maîtres du cinéma à petit budget ?

Je suis intéressée par tout le cinéma, surtout les films fantastiques et d'horreur, à petit ou grand budget, peu importe, si les films sont capables de m'émouvoir.

Arrivait-il jamais que le réalisateur a amélioré quelque chose dans le film suivant votre conseil ? Dans le sujet ou des scènes particulières.

Pas dans mes premiers films. J'étais jeune et néophyte, surtout intimidée par ce grand déballage—des caméras, sunlights etc... Mais dans les derniers, comme ‘Outre Tombe’ et les autres—’Vampyr’ et ‘Lady Usher’—je donne mon avis, bien sûr.

Y-a-t-il quelques détails dans vos films que vous auriez beaucoup voulu changer si le réalisateur vous avait permi, mais ça n'est jamais arrivé (hors de scènes porno excessives—c'est entendu) ?

Comme le cinéma était presque un fantasme d'enfant, je me laissais guider, flottant sur mon nuage, comme dans un rêve.

Mais dernièrement, c'est ma tenue, mon maquillage, la longueur des scènes—surtout ça que j'aurais voulu changer.

Pourriez-vous partager des anecdotes sur quelques événements amusants, étranges ou simplement intéressants qui sont arrivés pendant un tournage ?

C'est au cours de mes premiers films qu'il se passait des anecdotes que je pense assez drôles.

Vous savez qu'entre les scènes de filmage, les acteurs attendent souvent longtemps entre chaque prise de vues. Au cours de ces moments, nous étions oisifs, chacun papotait, et moi je leur racontais des histoires de fantômes, de maisons hantées. Ils étaient tous très intéressés jusqu'à en oublier leurs rôles, leurs textes au grand dam du réalisateur qui "s'arrachait les cheveux" devant une telle désinvolture et un manque de sérieux pour leur travail.

Ils m'écoutaient tous bouche bée—c'est inouï, cet intérêt pour le paranormal, surtout chez ce que l'on appelle les artistes. Je leur avais dit tout ce que je savais sur la question. Alors il m'arrivait d'inventer, notamment leur dire que j'habitais au 6-ème étage, ce qui était vrai, mais que j'avais une chèvre comme animal de compagnie. A leur interrogation sur le comment la bête pouvait grimper un escalier en bois ciré sans glisser, je disais qu'on lui avais confectionné des patins.

Je disais aussi que j'avais un python de 2 mètres. Ils étaient terrorisés. Pendant ce temps-là, le réalisateur, très en colère, frôlait la crise cardiaque…

Ils refusaient de venir chez moi, tellement ils avaient peur du serpent... !!! Ils m'appelaient "Serpente"!

Vous étiez tellement vilaine [ici j’ai choisi un faux mot français—je voulais dire “espiègle”].

Vilaine, je ne sais pas, espiègle plutôt, car tout cela était pour rire, sauf qu'eux et le réalisateur ne riaient pas. Hahhhaha!

Je voulais dire comme un enfant qui aime faire des bêtises amusantes contre des règles.

Oui, j'étais comme une enfant. Je le suis toujours LOL!

Y-a-t-il des choses que vous aimeriez changer dans votre carrière ou votre vie si vous pouviez revenir dans le passé et faire quelque chose autrement ?

Changer des choses, j'aurais préféré avoir une "carrière" différente, en grand quant à faire, mais le Destin, ou je ne sais quoi d'autre, en avait décidé autrement. Je pense aussi qu'étant donné ma vie passée, mon éducation, mon enfance et toutes sortes de paramètres, le résultat ne pouvait aboutir qu'à ce vécu-là. Donc, je ne regrette rien, car peut-être n'y pouvais-je rien et peut-être était-ce écrit, je ne sais pas.

No regrets !

Y-a-t-il des questions que personne ne vous a jamais demandé pour un interview, mais auxquels vous avez toujours voulu répondre ?

A brûle-pourpoint, comme cela, je ne vois pas... Je pense au paranormal, mais ça n'a rien à voir avec le cinéma.

Ce n'est pas important si ça n'a rien à voir avec le cinéma. Donc si vous avez quelque chose à dire sur le paranormal, je suis intéressé quand même.

Depuis ma plus tendre enfance, j'ai été attirée par l'étrange. Vers l'âge de 4 ans environ, mes parents venaient de déménager et moi je "freinais des 4 fers" en hurlant, refusant de pénétrer dans cette nouvelle maison au prétexte "qu'il y avait des esprits malfaisants".

Evidemment, l'installation s'est faite malgré mon refus, mais bien vite on s'est aperçu que la maison était hantée. C'était invivable : les objets bougeaient, les lumières s'allumaient seules, la nuit des cris, des plaintes, des murmures nous réveillaient, on recevait même des coups... On apprit un peu plus tard, que dans ce lieu, il y avait eu des crimes, des personnes s'étaient aussi suicidées...

Et vous avez déménagé ?

Oui et très vite LOL!

Et maintenant—la question avec laquelle je vous ai intrigué assez fortement pour me permettre de vous embêter par tellement de questions et pendant autant de temps. Quel est le secret de votre beauté impérissable ? Partagez avec les femmes aux foyers qui lisent mon blog des recettes ou incantations que vous utilisez.

Yes. In fact, it’s a pseudonym that I took for professional reasons. I am French to the bone, having been born in Fontainebleau, twenty five years ago.

How did you get into cinema?

I travelled a lot, then at some moment I returned to Paris, because I thought that it was the place I needed to come to if I wanted to work in cinema. I actually dreamt about going to Hollywood to become a star of Hollywood, when I was a child. While living in Europe, I told myself it was Paris for now.

And as if by chance, I allowed one guy, who told me he was a director, to date me. And in fact, he wasn’t a director at all, he was a traveller, a dude who had done Ballets Roses, etc. He had been imprisoned just because of that, because he used to have affairs with girls, school girls, minors, and he used to make dudes pay by making holes in walls for them.

He wasn’t in the cinema, but despite this, he had many acquaintances in it, and he took me to real directors, and indeed, in some time, they invited me to play in erotic films.

Have you always played in erotic films? Didn’t you work with Lelouch?

Yes, it’s true, in And Now My Love (Toute une vie) where I was a Hitler’s partner.

Hitler’s? Eva Braun?

No, no, a girl who just was there !... For a bagatelle.

Who are the directors with whom you preferred to work?

There are a lot of them. Lelouch, of course, and then serious directors, like Verneuil, Melville etc., and the latest one is Bigottini. He makes everyone call him so. He is an actor and director. I must make more films with him. He manages actors with precision.

Yes, he worked for a long time with Jesus Franco. Does he resemble him in the way he works?

Ah, not at all, it’s even quite serious. I don’t mean that working with the other isn’t serious. But here you have a scenario, it’s structured. We are finishing a film where I will also sing songs by Pauline Carton.

Has it ever happened that you refused to shoot certain scenes in certain films?

Yes, I have refused.

Why?

That was really porn stuff, disgusting, pointless.

Don’t you have an impression sometimes that you have shot in pointless scenes?

Yes, but I need to eat. I hate to do it, but it’s not my fault, and no one should blame me for this one day.

It’s more and more difficult these days for an actress to refuse to do what she is demanded, because of the very fact that there is more and more sexual liberty on the screen these days.

I’m absolutely not against erotic, in fact, pornographic cinema.

I agree up to a reasonable point, where you have a storyline, and not when it’s shown no matter what just to present a pair of buttocks. If it’s in a well-defined context, I agree, but I aspire for a different thing. I think I’m capable of doing a different thing and I have plans in this sense.

What do you think about French erotic cinema?

French erotic cinema is a botchery. There are talented guys, but too few. On the whole, people behaved like amateurs with me, both in our relationships and at work.

Who are the talented actresses in French erotic cinema?

I don’t know what value they have professionally, because it’s difficult to judge whether or not they have talent, given the fact that the scenarios lack interest. I have rarely seen scenarios that made sense, except for the film that I’m going to shoot with Bigottini.

Sometimes there is such a mess, you don’t even know what is going on. They insert other scenes during the montage, you don’t understand anything anymore. French erotic cinema is really crappy! You can write that. In fact, not even cinema!

There are, however, certain directors who make films that are not bad: Michel Lemoine, Jean-Francois Davy.

Yes, it’s true, those are worthy people, but, unfortunately, I haven’t worked with them.

This cinema allowed to reveal such actresses of the future: Marie-Georges Pascal, Anne Libert, Valerie Boisgel, Nathalie Zeiger, and a few others.

There is also Monica Swinn. She is good, she plays very well, she plays in theatre, she has much talent.

Do directors limit you to a strictly determined emploi or, on the contrary, do you play different characters from one film to another?

No, I don’t have a precise emploi. I have played young naive girls, fine ladies, I’ve been demonic.

You’ve been demonic?

This can happen to me, but not too much. I’m not perverse, as I don’t like to hurt people. On the contrary—I like to give people joy, I rather like to bring them pleasure, no matter in what domain.

Hum?

I think I’m generous.

You don’t know how to refuse?

It depends on the circumstances, but to the extent of my possibilities, I have the generosity of the heart and…

The body?

Maybe. It depends on the circumstances. I’m quite melodramatic, as I’m a Scorpion, and I’m very passionate, so very tormented. But on the screen I am rather comic. By the way, in the latest film that I made I have a comical role.

Personally, I see you playing a role of a big bourgeois, a bit of a snob!

There are people who thought about giving me roles like this, but I see myself rather comical-sexy.

Opinion to the directors!

Are there any famous actresses in the American cinema with whom you would like to identify yourself?

Yes—Kim Novak, Marilyn Monroe, Shirley McLaine.

When you are shooting erotic scenes, don’t you ever exceed the limit of the scenario, haven’t it happened to you to let yourself get enthralled by the game, given that the shots are often quite long and can last 2-3 minutes?

This can happen, but at the given moment the director says “cut”! And all is cut, it cuts everything!

Can you talk about the compensation? Is this profitable?

Not that much. Let’s say on average 1000 F. per day, but I can be paid a lump sum in the end.

What was your longest shooting?

Three weeks!

Is this an unusual shooting time for this kind of production?

Exactly. This is yet about Bigottini’s film—this is why I think it should be not bad. Other times, it happened to me to shoot three films at the same time. I didn’t know anymore in which film I was, what I was supposed to do.

Your plans?

First of all, this summer I’m going to the United States to shoot a series for the American TV with Robert Stack, Elliott Ness’ the Untouchables, and after that—other films with Bigottini, and with a young director.
