The Vampires Night Orgy (1973 Film by Leon Klimovsky) Review

Helga Liné as the countess in "Vampires Night Orgy" (1973)

The Vampires Night Orgy (the original title is La Orgia Nocturna De Los Vampiros) is a Spanish film directed by Leon Klimovsky. It's a good vampire horror story with typical 70's exploitation genre features. Among the community of European old horror lovers this film is not mentioned as often as other classics of the genre, which adds even more curiosity.

    Plot Summary

A group of people, hired as employees at a mansion of an aristocrat, are going by bus to their working place. A sudden death of their driver makes them decide to make an unplanned stop at a village that is absent on the map. As you can assume looking at the title of the film, the village and its inhabitants appear to be unusual, and the company has to stay at the village for longer than planned. And as it's a horror film, obviously some of the members will have to stay for especially longer time, if you know what I mean.

    Why Do I Recommend It?

    1) As usual for this blog - lovely feeling of 70's. Men wear moustaches. The film is starting with a groovy funk theme. And everything 70s. A composition of the same kind - with a nasty fat bass guitar starting playing later, during a love scene, so you feel like something is missing in the frame - probably Ron Jeremy?

    2) Beautiful mountainous locations during a cold season. Deserted out-of-town highway, and later - an old bleak European village, hidden in the mountains from the direct sunlight. Well-made spooky dark night scenes: you see only necessary details without extra unnatural light.

    3) Vampires. They are made really dangerous, cruel, creepy. Not your fancy goths for teenage girls. Real maniacs - out of their minds, ugly (except one seductive lady, sure thing: while being scary she is staying beautiful), inhuman, who don't mind to enjoy human meat in addition to traditional blood we are all already bored with while watching another vampire picture. By the way, the film is not really bloody, but there are still enough scary violent scenes in it. The best ones are saved for the end - a heartbreaking scene with children at a cemetary and an exciting, tense final escape.

    4) Pretty women. Of course the movie has some nudity, but not in a very significant amount. There were two versions of the film: some scenes were shot twice - with the actresses dressed and with the actresses undressed. This was made for adapting the film to different censorship standards in different countries.
